Day 29 – Date Night

I wrote a little post on my regular blog about our Date Night. Dinner at Alleia then to the movies to see True Grit. Both were extraordinary, but the best was being with my sweet husband!

Day 28 – Light Up My Heart

As I have previously posted, the afternoon light in my daughter’s kitchen window is delightful. As I was passing by the doorway I caught a glimpse of the following. Gorgeous!

Day 27 – Mountain Snow

On the way to my photoshoot in Nashville, I passed over Monteagle Mountain. It is still beautifully decorated with snow. It was like driving through a winter wonderland. Beautiful!

Day 24 – Playdoh and Light

While I was at Cupcake’s house I walked in the kitchen to get her a snack and saw this beautiful afternoon light coming in through the window. It was falling on the playdoh that we had been playing with earlier. I loved the picture so much I decided to post two versions of it.

Day 23 – Here Comes the Sun(flowers)

Bought these on Saturday with the anticipation of beautiful sun streaming through the kitchen window on Sunday morning. These sunflowers bring just the right color to that kitchen window. I love my little piggie wisk too!

Day 22 – Red is the Color of LOVE

I have 2 today. Sometimes I just can’t choose so, since it’s my blog and my 365 project, I have freedom. Freedom to have 2 pictures.

First up, a Chicken Apron that I received for Christmas. Love it! So did Cupcake Girl. She was admiring the pocket. What strikes me the most in the photo is the toenail colors…..electric blue and petal pink.

day_22_1

So, while mixing up ingredients for some Apple Pie Cake to be cooked in the crockpot, I broke my favorite $2.00 plastic bowl. Banged the spoon right on the side, just like I’ve done a zillion times and oops! A hole. But a great hole to take a picture through!

Day 17 – Coins in a Fountain

Cupcake Girl loves, loves, loves to throw coins in the fountain. Any fountain will do, but we usually visit the one at our local mall. I saved up lots of pennies and she grinned from ear to ear when she saw all of them. After throwing several up high, then chasing them as the rolled along the floor from over-shooting, she decided to see if she could make them float. Today she discovered that pennies don’t float.

day_17

I wish my little point and shoot took better pictures. The color isn’t great.

Day 16 – Sweet Dreams and Joy in the Snow

I had such fun sledding. This weekend was my first time ever (this pictures was my second).

She slept good and had sweet dreams about sledding. Well, maybe not sledding….

Day 14 - “Can I Play on Your Computer?”

She learned how to use the computer all by herself at her house. She learned how to print at my house.
She loves the Nick Jr. website. She loves Oswald. She loves Fresh Beat Band. She loves Dora. She loves Dino Dan.
She really loves printing!
day_14
Yes, I know my bulletin board is crooked. Yes, I know my floor looks junkie.
I LOVE all the shows on Nick Jr. and I recently discovered Oobi.
Thank you my sweet Cupcake Girl!!

Day 13 – Light, Shadows and Snow

I looked out the window on day 5 of our snow. There it was. Sun. A bright, warm sun casting beautiful light which created long, magnificent shadows. I also love the patterns in the snow of our semi-circular tire tracks.

Day 12 – A Visit

My very good friend, Laurie, stop by for a visit on her way back to Kentucky. She slowly navigated her way through the scary, icy, snowy, interstate system in Atlanta from southern Georgia. After a wonderful night of chatting we took Cupcake Girl, her mama and The Captain to lunch. Afterwards, we dropped off my daughter and headed to the aquarium.

Day 10 – Their Predictions were Correct!

So, the weather folks predicted lots of snow for our area. Yep! They were correct. Christmas day we say about 4-5 inches. This time around we saw about 6-8 inches and possible more, depending on where one lives. I love how the wind created this tiny little heart shape in the snow that accumulated on our deck railing.

Day 9 – Little Do-Dads

For Christmas, I received this little mini-bamboo cutting board and Silicone Mini Flexible Pinch Bowls. My very thoughtful daughters got them for me. I just love them! These great gifts were perfect when it came time to make Game Day Chili, which by the way was awesome! I also made Lucky Black-eyed Pea Salad. The red pepper jelly and fresh peaches added just the right punch to this salad. Delicious!

Day 8 – A Desk

This is my desk in what we call the Green Room. Just a simple wicker desk with a messy top. But, it works. It works for me.

Day 7 – Just a Rainbow

No. It was not just a rainbow.

Today, around 5ish, I looked out the window while at my daughter’s house. The sky really looked strange. I think I used the word wicked. It was the oddest color of silver/grey. Not really like a rain or snow sky. Just wicked.

After a few minutes, we went to Cupcake’s room and my daughter yelled to look out the window again. Upon looking out, my eyes were transfixed upon the largest, brightest, most spectacular rainbow I have ever seen. Throughout my life I have had the privilege to witness many rainbows, with the majority of them located in Hawaii. I have also witnessed a few double rainbows. But this? Oh this. It was spectacular and a full arch. I was in awe!

That rainbow looked as if we could cross the street, go around into the backyard of the neighbors and there we would find the end of that rainbow, with a bit pot of gold and little leprechaun.  I was so excited! I bounced around like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. We gazed at it from inside the house and then from outside. This was also the first rainbow for Cupcake. She said, “I’ve never seen a real rainbow.” Oh my precious Cupcake Girl.

I only had my point/shoot camera and it really doesn’t show the spectacular-ness of this God given gift, but here it is!

day_7

O, beautiful rainbow; - all woven of light!
There's not in thy tissue, one shadow of night;
Heaven surely is open when thou dost appear,
And, bending above thee, the angels draw near,
And sing, - "The rainbow! the rainbow!
The smile of God is here."

Day 6 – Maid-Rite is Made Right

According to the Maid-Rite website: In 1926, Fred Angell, a respected butcher in Muscatine, Iowa, combined a special blend and grind of the finest Midwestern ground beef with a selected recipe of secret spices and created the one and only Maid-Rite sandwich.

My sweet husband LOVES, and I do mean loves, these sandwiches. During childhood, his family would make trips to Illinois in the summer. One of the culinary eateries they had the pleasure of dining at was the Maid-Rite Diner. It was love at first bite!

During a road trip that we took in 2007, we sought out the Maid-Rite diner somewhere in the great state of Illinois. I had high hopes for the culinary treasure, but was not impressed, at least visually. I kept thinking of the TV show Rosanne, when they opened up the “loose-meat” diner. I discovered that the taste wasn’t unpleasant, but I just didn’t like looking at it. I know, weird.

Now fast forward to this past Thursday. As I arrived home, I was met at the front door by a box. A box with the words “Maid-Rite” on it. Oh dear. Are you serious? Really? My sweet husband’s dear brother and sweet sister-in-law wished us a very happy new year by sending this delicacy to our home. A dozen double-wrapped, frozen, Maid-Rite sandwiches, with a ziplock bag of chopped onions and sliced pickles.

I thawed out 3 of them to have with our salad for supper. I added mustard to his and bit of mayo to mine. I have to say, it was pretty dang good! I definitely liked it much better from the frozen stand point versus the fresh. Sometimes certain foods just taste better after being either frozen or refrigerated after a few days.

So,muchas gracias Steve and Troi!! We have 9 more in our freezer and I wonder how long they will last? I also wonder how some BBQ sauce would taste on a Maid-Rite sandwich? I think see and taste potential! What a great gift!!!!

I think I heard one of the secret ingredients was Coke or Pepsi. Is that correct Josh?

Day 3 – Morning Light

I sleep on the right side of the bed. I face the wall. This view delighted my eyes at 7:54 am this morning. Beautiful morning light bursting through the window bathing the wall in dreaminess.

Day 1 - Dinner and a Volcano

What better way to spend the first day of the new year.....building a "craft volcano" then having dinner at Ichiban's with the Captain, College Daughter, Cupcake, and Cupcake's mama and daddy! This food volcano turned out much better than our crafty volcano. Happy New Year!
